This model, which we have dubbed “The Purist’s Nightmare” is, in fact a gag, but it is actually for sale in limited quantities.
The origin…..
The concept for this model started as research for starting a business, and what we did (and did not) want to do. There were lots of opinions, some from educators and scientists, some from passionate amateurs, some were (and are) just fans of large, dangerous scaley things.
So we created two word clouds. What people wanted, and what we should avoid. They have helped guide us on selecting new species, poses and how our models are cut up for assembly. However, quite early on we decided there was an opportunity to do something rather unique, to keep things fun and because our wedding anniversary is on April 1st, every year we plan on doing a similar special gag release.
So in addition to the word clouds, we opened the forum up a bit once we knew where we were going to go with this release. Some further questions we asked are below….
How did your interest in dinosaurs arise?
Are there other prehistoric creatures you find interesting?
What is your favourite type of dinosaur?
What anatomical mistake do you see most often in dinosaur models?
What kind of posing draws you to a dinosaur model?
We commissioned Creature Sculpt Studio to combine the top items from each category in to one sculpt which is both alluring, and infuriating at the same time. It’s either the coolest thing you’ve ever seen, or quite triggering…..the more you know, and the longer you look at it - the worse it becomes.
Here are some of the fun bits of give and take which amused us ….
Lips…..but a shrink-wrapped skull
Dynamic running theropod….thick heavy aquatic archosaurian tail
Impractical spikes, a reference to one type of media many cited as their gateway to dinosaurs
Pronated wrists
It’s a theropod(?)….so naturally it has to be yelling at something
Fangs on the lower jaw
Osteoderms, because why not?!
This is a limited run. The stock you see is the stock we are offering.
Suggested paint scheme - Purple with green spots.
Printed in Resin at a 16k resolution…for accuracy.
The kits themselves come in four pieces, base, tail, main body and head.
The completed kit height is 20cm, the length is 33cm, the width is 25cm
