Who we are
We’re Dawn and Joe, a wife and husband team who love art, nature and learning about the past.
So lots of people love the same things as us though, why a business? Because of our kids honestly. We want to inspire them and show them doing what you love, and art are worthwhile paths to follow…and the work involved. In addition, we want to show them, and young people in general the variety of wonderful creatures which are no longer with us, so they can appreciate and protect the ones which still are.
Dawn is our administrative heart. She keeps everything on track, handles paperwork and attempts to keep Joe from becoming too distracted. While she enjoys prehistoric life, Dawn is drawn to life and customs from Georgian and Victorian England. Her first chat up line to Joe was “What’s your favourite dinosaur?”
Joe has more than a decade of experience in engineering, design, production, delivery and is also a degreed educator. He is our artist and resident prehistory enthusiast. He proposed to Dawn in the museum where they had their first date with a carnotaurus prop he made (that is his favourite dinosaur by the way).
This business is for the young at heart, anyone who visited a museum and wished they could take a piece home with them, or perhaps for those at learning institutions who want people to feel that way!
What we want to do is be different. That is why everything offered on this website is made as sustainably as possible, by hand and whenever possible the elements are sourced from local small businesses.
We are very proud to endorse and rely on the talents of the artists below. Everything is digitally sculpted by hand, it is very important to us that a human is always behind every work of art. In other words - our artists are fantastic and we are very much against using A.I. for generating models.
Our Partnered Artists
We’ll admit to having a soft spot for Dave at Nova Studios. His encouragement made us believe we could do this, and we have been working closely with him - often texting back and forth late into the night. Dave is our exclusive source for skeletal reconstructions. We made our decision to go down this route, firstly, because we like Dave, and secondly because he ethically sources his information, and references from museums and scientists - and then credits them.
When you see Agustin’s work, it is like seeing Jurassic Park in a cinema for the first time - you just feel it in your bones he has hit pretty close to the mark in capturing how these creatures really appeared. His scales aren’t uniform, his creatures have rolls and wrinkles. They are real and they are beautiful. Agustin is also just lovely.
If you are going to have a paleoart business, you need to have someone like Fabrizio on call. He combines the best of both worlds: he is capable of providing scientifically accurate sculpts of species, but he can also go down the retro route at a moment’s notice and create awesome stylized reconstructions of prehistoric life. Fabrizio’s art is “cool” and that is because he is as well.
Ancient Era Artistry
Sometimes speculative palaeoart isn’t the ask, and the discerning buyer wants a life reconstruction that is based on the latest evidence. When Matt starts to sculpt a creature, he starts after copious amounts of research, and he’ll normally sculpt over a skeleton to ensure pose and musculature are on point. Well known in the palaeoart circuit for his attention to the small details, if you want a museum-level accurate sculpt of a live creature - Matt is your man.
Sian Warren
Sian is a rockstar. Fur, hide, feathers or scales, no creature is outside her comfort zone. Some of the projects she has worked on include Disney’s Mufasa, Netflix’s Life On Our Planet, as well as Disney’s Loki series and Warner Bros’ Aquaman. There is hardly a creature type Sian doesn’t have industry-leading experience in helping create and her talents make her the obvious choice for the less familiar creatures of Earth’s past.
Kex Art Studio
A friend of a friend you might say, Kex Studio and Exetinct have very similar vibes. Great art, affordable prices and new species. You won’t find “Kex” online using “Western” internet searches, but we’re betting that will change once the word gets out. For now though, we will be making some fantastic models of niche species (as always!) available on our site from this new studio.
