Simosuchus clarki Life-Sized Skeletal Replica
Crocodilians have done it all since appearing on earth some 225 million years ago and simosuchus is one of the more benign and “friend-shaped” forms to have evolved. The Simosuchus replica by Nova Studios captures one of the most unusual prehistoric crocodilians ever discovered — the pug-nosed crocodile (Simosuchus clarki) from Late Cretaceous Madagascar.
Having evolved in Madagascar in the Late Cretaceous, simosuchus would have shared its habitat with some dangerous neighbours. Due to this, it was also heavily armoured all over its body.
This model is an outreach champion. Because of its modular design, light weight and ability to free stand (even with numerous pats on the head) it is a versatile example of evolution stemming from a group of animals most wouldn’t expect to be small, armoured and herbivorous. It is also very charismatic. Fair warning, everyone will want a picture!
Our model, sculpted by Dave at Nova Studios, is based on FMNH PR 2597 and its approx dims are 80 cm in length, 40 cm in width, and 33 cm in height.
Our basic product offering comes in two forms:
A raw, unpainted kit made from PLA and brass dowels. If you select this form, you will receive a ready to articulate, but unfinished assembly. The model will require the gluing of two joints, which we recommend doing after painting. The rest will have pre-interested brass dowels for easy assembly. It will come un-primed and will require painting/weathering. Each kit will come with a set of basic instructions and material recommendations.
A finished model which has been painted, weathered and varnished (to protect paint job). It will be shipped unarticulated, however basic assembly instructions will be included. Time required for assembly: under 10 minutes.
If you would like an alternative size, materials or something slightly different, please get in touch via the “contact us” page.
