Our First Collaboration

Picture this: It’s the early 1990’s, and dinosaur fever is rampant across multiple forms of media. One particular documentary, which will become something of a cult classic introduces you to Dougal Dixon.

We first encountered Dougal through the documentary Prehistoric World, which was a Garry Owens and Eric Boardman hosted film about the rise of mammals after the age of dinosaurs. In the film, near the end of the programme, Dougal is interviewed about his book After Man, and a decent amount of conversation is held around the fantastic creatures found within the book. It would have been another few years before finding a copy in a pre-Amazon world and then a few years after that discovering The New Dinosaurs, his book about an alternate world where the K-T extinction event never occurred.

If you are reading this, there’s a good choice you are of the animal toy and model collecting demographic, and even at the young ages we were, we felt robbed that the fantastic creatures of Star Wars and the like got figures, but not so the incredible, science-rooted creatures of Dougal’s books.

A few decades later, and we were thinking of how our business could distance itself from that of other, talented individuals we did not want to compete with, or further dilute the market of. Going through some books for reference material, we rediscovered our love for speculative zoology and decided to “take a punt”.

We contacted Dougal, and after a decent amount of admin we decided on four scenes/species to make models of - all officially licenced and above board (just the way we like it). Our first of these figures will be the “cutlasstooth” theropod from Dougal’s book The New Dinosaurs, which is rereleasing in August 2025. So follow us on Instagram, or sign up for our newsletter for more updates!

We are thrilled and honoured to firstly be working with Dougal, and secondly to be making the figures we always wanted - the way we want them. What is even better is we can share them with all of you. Hopefully you do like them, and if they do well, we will reach out again and see if there are more creatures we can produce from his works!
